Legal Assistant

Job Summary:

 

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Assistant to join our legal team. In this role, you will support our attorneys by managing a variety of tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our legal processes and providing critical assistance to facilitate client matters. The ideal candidate will have experience with mass tort cases. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None 

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and assists with legal documents for attorneys as directed. Drafts and files complaints, pleadings, and other legal correspondence.
  • Conducts or assists with legal research for attorneys as directed.
  • Assists with propounding and responding to discovery.
  • Submits requests for and organizes client medical records. 
  • Manages files in case management software (Filevine), ensuring that litigation files are properly and securely maintained, and records and documents needed for litigation are collected and organized. 
  • Maintains calendars for attorneys.
  • Sets court dates, appearances, and meetings with witnesses and experts.
  • Schedules and monitors deadlines in connection with cases. 
  • Documents and verifies case expenses.
  • Coordinates travel arrangements and reservations for attorneys and support staff.
  • Performs basic office functions including answering, screening, and directing phone calls; managing mail; and printing or copying documents.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to communicate effectively. 
  • Ability to travel occasionally for trial attendance.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, PDF, Outlook, and Gmail. 
  • Organized with attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of court and administrative proceedings and documentation.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and manage workload with a positive attitude and minimal supervision.
  • Clear understanding of lawsuit summaries, litigation files, and proper maintenance of all legal records.
  • Superior proficiency in administrative tasks. 

 

Education and Experience:

  • At least two years of work-related experience is preferred. 
  • Mass tort experience is highly preferred. 
  • Familiarity with Filevine desired, but not required.

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
