Survey CAD Draftsman
Position Title: Survey CAD Draftsman / Technician
Position Summary
The Survey CAD Draftsman / Technician is responsible for preparing, drafting, and maintaining accurate survey drawings, maps, plats, and related documentation using computer-aided design (CAD) software. This position works closely with Professional Land Surveyors, project managers, field crews, engineers, and other technical staff to transform field-collected data into high-quality deliverables that support land development, infrastructure, transportation, utility, and construction projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Process and draft survey data collected by field survey crews.
- Prepare boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, subdivision plats, easement exhibits, legal descriptions, and construction staking plans.
- Create and maintain accurate CAD drawings using industry-standard software.
- Process and analyze field data from total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and drone surveys.
- Generate survey maps, exhibits, profiles, cross-sections, and other technical drawings.
- Ensure survey deliverables comply with company standards, client requirements, and applicable state and local regulations.
- Perform quality control reviews of survey drawings for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Coordinate with survey crews, project managers, engineers, municipalities, and clients to clarify project requirements.
- Organize and maintain project files, drawing archives, and digital records.
- Assist with preparation of legal descriptions, deeds, easements, and right-of-way exhibits.
- Support project scheduling and meet established deadlines.
- Stay current with surveying technologies, CAD software updates, and industry best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent experience in Surveying, Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, or a related field.
- 2+ years of survey drafting experience preferred.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D.
- Understanding of land surveying principles, boundary analysis, coordinate geometry (COGO), and survey terminology.
- Ability to interpret field notes, deeds, plats, legal descriptions, and engineering plans.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Civil 3D survey databases and point management.
- Knowledge of GIS applications and geospatial data management.
- Understanding of ALTA/NSPS standards and state surveying regulations.
- Survey Technician certification or related professional credentials.
