TK/K After School Program Leader

TK/K After School Program Leader

Boys & Girls Club of the Foothills is hiring part-time TK/K After School Program Leaders to support our youngest elementary students in Monrovia.

This is a great role for someone with preschool, early childhood, childcare, classroom aide, camp, tutoring, or youth development experience. It is also a strong fit for college students or future educators who enjoy working with young children and want meaningful part-time work in a school-based setting.

Pay: Starting at $20.00 per hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday afternoons, approximately 1:00pm-6:00pm

Expected hours: Approximately 25 hours per week

Location: Monrovia elementary school sites

Job type: Part-time, in person

Start date: As soon as interview and background check are completed

About the role:

  • Our TK/K Program Leaders help create a safe, nurturing, fun, and structured after-school experience for students in Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten. Staff lead activities, support routines and transitions, build positive relationships, and help our youngest members feel safe, known, encouraged, and ready to participate.

  • You do not need years of experience to be successful in this role. Experience with preschool-aged children, TK/K students, childcare, or early childhood settings is preferred, but we are also willing to train the right person who has the patience, warmth, reliability, and temperament to work well with young children.

What you will do:

  • Keep TK/K students safe, supervised, and engaged during the after-school program
  • Build positive, caring relationships with young children
  • Lead age-appropriate games, activities, enrichment, movement, and play-based experiences
  • Help students learn and follow simple routines and expectations
  • Support smooth transitions between activities, snack, restroom breaks, indoor play, outdoor play, and dismissal
  • Use a calm, patient, and encouraging approach with students who may be tired, emotional, shy, or still adjusting to the school day
  • Support early social-emotional learning, including sharing, listening, using words, following directions, and being part of a group
  • Help create a respectful, responsible, safe, and fun program culture
  • Work as part of a team with other BGCF staff and school partners
  • Follow program expectations, safety procedures, and staff direction

Schedule:

  • Monday: 1:00pm-6:00pm
  • Tuesday: 1:00pm-6:00pm
  • Wednesday: 12:15pm-6:00pm
  • Thursday: 1:00pm-6:00pm
  • Friday: 1:30pm-6:00pm

We are looking for people who are:

  • Passionate about working with young children
  • Warm, patient, calm, and encouraging
  • Reliable and able to work Monday-Friday afternoons
  • Comfortable leading activities and supervising groups of young students
  • Able to manage routines, transitions, and group expectations with kindness and consistency
  • Comfortable supporting children who may cry, miss home, need reminders, or require extra encouragement
  • Active enough to participate in indoor and outdoor activities with students
  • Able to communicate clearly with children, families, and staff
  • Willing to learn and follow Boys & Girls Club program expectations
  • Able to work with students from a wide range of backgrounds
  • A team player with a strong work ethic

Preferred

  • Experience in preschool, childcare, TK/K, early childhood education, after-school programs, summer camp, tutoring, coaching, recreation, or youth development
  • Bachelor's degree or current enrollment in college
  • Associate degree or progress toward an Associate degree
  • Early childhood education, child development, education, psychology, social work, kinesiology, recreation, or related coursework

Important note about restroom support

BGCF requires members to be toilet trained. Staff may provide verbal coaching, reminders, and support with routines, but staff do not physically assist children with toileting or changing clothes.

Requirements:

  • Must complete screening and fingerprint background check before hire
  • Must have reliable transportation to assigned Monrovia program site
  • Must be able to stand, walk, move around the program area, and actively supervise children
  • Must be able to participate in indoor and outdoor activities with students
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds when needed
  • Must be able to help keep children safe in an emergency
  • May be assigned to support other elementary age groups when needed, though the primary goal is to place this position with TK/K students

Why work with BGCF?

  • At Boys & Girls Club of the Foothills, our staff do more than supervise students. They create safe spaces, build relationships, teach routines, encourage growth, and help children experience a positive after-school environment.
  • Our TK/K staff have a special role in supporting our youngest members as they adjust to school, build confidence, develop friendships, and learn how to be part of a group. This is meaningful part-time work for someone who truly enjoys young children and wants to make a difference during an important stage of development.
