Position Summary
USD #270 is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will inspire students through engaging, hands-on learning experiences that prepare them with practical life skills for success in school, careers, and everyday life. The FACS teacher will create a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment while developing meaningful relationships with students, families, and the community.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an engaging Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum aligned with Kansas State Department of Education standards.
- Teach a variety of FACS courses, which may include:
- Culinary Arts and Nutrition
- Sewing, Textiles, and Fashion Design
- Child Development and Parenting
- Personal Finance and Consumer Economics
- Housing and Interior Design
- Family Relationships and Life Skills
- Create a positive classroom culture that promotes respect, responsibility, creativity, collaboration, and student success.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including project-based learning, laboratory experiences, demonstrations, technology integration, and collaborative activities to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Assess student learning using formative and summative assessments and provide timely, meaningful feedback to support academic growth.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and well-equipped classroom and laboratory environment while following all safety procedures.
- Foster positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community partners.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom activities.
- Participate in district and building professional development, faculty meetings, and collaborative planning.
- Sponsor and supervise Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) or other related student organizations and extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance in accordance with district policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or superintendent.
Qualifications
- Valid Kansas teaching license with an appropriate Family and Consumer Sciences endorsement, or eligibility to obtain licensure.
- Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, Education, or a related field.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
