Communications Marketing Intern

The Mike Loya Center for Innovation and Commerce (MLCIC), in partnership with Texas Internship Initiative, is happy to announce entrepreneurship-focused internships. These seasonal internships are designed to develop the essential skills, assets, and training needed to expand students' entrepreneurial knowledge and better prepare them to enter the workforce. Through these practical experiences, students will learn about entrepreneurship, develop highly coveted skills employers seek in new college graduates, and gain real-world experience all while earning a livable wage of $20/hr. Target Cohort: Target Cohort: Final-year undergraduate seniors and final-year graduate students enrolled full-time at The University of Texas at El Paso.
Field of Study: Must be pursuing a degree directly related to the specific internship role.
Eligibility: Must possess valid U.S. work authorization (excludes F-1 Visa status).

Job Title: Communications & Marketing Intern

Position Summary

The Presidents Lab is seeking a Communications & Marketing Intern to support brand growth, community engagement, and business development initiatives. This internship provides hands-on experience in public speaking, marketing strategy, content creation, education and entrepreneurship. The intern will work directly with the founder to help expand educational programs, workshops, and coaching services while gaining real-world experience in building and growing a service-based business.

Essential Job Functions

· Assist with creating and repurposing content for social media platforms

· Support marketing campaigns for workshops, speaking engagements, and coaching programs

· Conduct market research and identify potential partnership opportunities

· Assist with lead generation and community outreach efforts

· Create marketing materials using Canva and other digital tools

· Track engagement metrics and provide recommendations for improvement

· Support event planning, workshop coordination, and administrative tasks

· Participate in brainstorming sessions focused on business growth and innovation

Real-World Learning Opportunities

· Observe and participate in client-facing communication and workshop development

· Gain experience building and promoting a personal and professional brand

· Learn how marketing strategies translate into business growth and revenue generation

· Develop practical skills in content creation, outreach, and audience engagement

Alignment of Skills and Job Functions

Students interested in communications, marketing, business, entrepreneurship, public relations, or related fields will apply classroom concepts to real business challenges. Through content creation, outreach, and campaign support, interns will strengthen communication, critical thinking, creativity, storytelling and project management skills.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation Component

The intern will work within a growing entrepreneurial venture and gain exposure to the processes involved in launching, marketing, and scaling a service-based business. Students will contribute ideas, test marketing concepts, analyze results, and participate in innovative approaches to audience growth and community engagement.

Final Deliverable

At the conclusion of the internship, the student will prepare a presentation summarizing:

· Key projects completed

· Marketing initiatives supported

· Skills developed during the internship

· Recommendations for future growth opportunities

· Reflection on entrepreneurial and professional learning experiences

The presentation will be delivered to the business owner and accompanied by a portfolio of completed work samples.
