Software Developer

Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) – Dahlgren, VA

Are you passionate about software development and solving complex technical challenges? NSWCDD is seeking motivated software developers to join our team supporting next-generation defense technologies. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers to design, develop, integrate, and test software that directly supports critical national security missions.

This is an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates who enjoy building software, learning new technologies, and tackling challenging engineering problems in a collaborative research and development environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain software applications supporting advanced defense systems.
  • Develop algorithms and engineering models using modern programming languages.
  • Integrate software components into larger system architectures.
  • Debug, test, and optimize software performance.
  • Perform software verification and validation to ensure system reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews and secure software development practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists to solve complex technical problems.
  • Contribute throughout the software development lifecycle using Agile and DevSecOps methodologies.

Desired Qualifications

We’re looking for candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Python
  • C
  • C++
  • Java

Additional experience in any of the following is highly desirable:

  • Algorithm development
  • Compression algorithms or data compression techniques
  • Software debugging and testing
  • Object-oriented programming
  • Git or other version control systems
  • Linux development
  • Secure software development
  • Static code analysis or software testing tools
  • Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning
  • Computer Vision
  • DevSecOps or Agile software development

Preferred Majors

  • Computer Science

  • Cybersecurity
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Systems Engineering
  • Mathematics or another related STEM discipline with significant software development experience
