Description of Position:

 

This position is for instruction in applied low brass performance. Candidates should be prepared to teach students to:

 

• Perform on primary low brass instrument with sound, pedagogically-appropriate fundamentals using contemporary best practices

• Perform music with rhythmic, melodic/harmonic, and stylistic accuracy with attention to expressive nuance

 

• Develop music literacy across a variety of eras, styles, and genres

 

• Select appropriate repertoire for solo performance

 

• Perform improvised solos tending to chord progressions as applicable

 

• Prepare for public performance including appropriate approach to practicing music, memorization, and coordinating with accompanists as applicable

 

• Prepare for transfer institution auditions

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;

2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;

3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;

4. meeting with students outside of class;

5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;

6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;

7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;

8. maintaining accurate academic records;

9. performing other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:

 

EDUCATION:

Master's in music

OR

Bachelor's in music AND Master's in humanities

OR

the equivalent

 

The disciplines listed in the minimum qualifications are determined by the statewide Academic Senate for California Community Colleges.

 

A Doctoral degree (PhD) is considered to encompass a master's degree (MA or MS). If the title(s) of your degree major(s) listed on your unofficial transcripts or other documents from the degree-granting institutions are not an EXACT MATCH to the degrees listed above, you MUST submit an equivalency form. Desirable Qualifications:

 

• Master's degree in music performance on a low brass instrument or music education with a low brass primary

• Experience performing classical and jazz trombone, classical euphonium, and classical tuba

• Experience teaching classical and jazz trombone, classical euphonium, and classical tuba

• Experience recruiting, maintaining, and retaining a successful studio of low brass students

• Experience working with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, age groups, disabilities, gender identities, and sexual orientations.

• Dedication to an inclusive and equitable educational environment.
