VISTA Tenant Organizer

For more than 60 years, Tri-CAP has worked to reduce poverty and strengthen communities across Benton, Sherburne, and Stearns Counties in Central Minnesota. As the first Community Action Agency established outside the Twin Cities, Tri-CAP has a long history of helping individuals and families overcome barriers to housing, economic stability, and opportunity through advocacy, education, outreach, and direct support services. Central Minnesota renters face growing housing challenges, including limited access to tenant education, legal resources, and housing navigation support. These barriers are often amplified in rural communities, where transportation, service availability, and geographic distance can make it difficult for renters to find help before a housing crisis occurs. As a VISTA member with Tri-CAP, you will help build sustainable systems that expand access to housing information and strengthen community resources for renters. You will work alongside Tri-CAP staff and HOME Line, Minnesota's statewide tenant advocacy organization, to develop outreach strategies, strengthen referral networks, and create tools that increase housing stability throughout the region. This position offers meaningful professional development for individuals interested in housing, community development, nonprofit leadership, public policy, social justice, or community organizing. Members receive training in housing systems, partnership development, community outreach, data management, and capacity building. Members also participate in Neighborhoods Now!, a nationally recognized leadership and community organizing institute offered through the University of Minnesota's Center for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA).

Member Duties : The VISTA member will build Tri-CAP’s capacity to support housing stability for low-income renters by expanding outreach, strengthening partnerships, improving tenant education resources, and developing sustainable data and program systems in collaboration with HOME Line. Including, develop and implement a comprehensive outreach plan within 90 days. Create and update tenant education materials. Build and formalize partnerships with at least 5 community organizations. Develop and document referral systems. Create a data tracking and reporting system. Document program processes and tools. Support development of volunteer and engagement systems. All systems, materials, and partnerships developed will be documented and integrated into Tri-CAP’s ongoing operations to ensure long-term impact beyond the VISTA term.
