Graduate Assistant - Student Success (Fall 2026/Winter2027)
The Oakland University School of Nursing (SON) seeks a motivated and professional graduate student to serve as a Graduate Assistant with a focus on Student Success and Peer Mentoring. The successful candidate will support initiatives designed to enhance the academic, professional, and personal development of nursing students, contribute to retention and completion efforts, and promote engagement, well-being, and a strong sense of belonging. This role will also coordinate aspects of the SON Peer Mentoring Program and assist with programming and operations within the Student Success Center.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and execution of SON Student Success & Peer Mentoring initiatives, workshops and events (e.g., nursing orientations, peer mentor training, alumni engagement events, wellness programming).
- Support the Peer Mentoring Program: match mentors with mentees, monitor participation, collect and analyze feedback, and ensure quality interactions.
- Oversee daily use of the Student Success Center space, ensuring zones for study, coaching, professional exploration, and well-being are programmed and utilized effectively.
- Develop and maintain the SON Student Success & Peer Mentoring Resource Hub with targeted materials for undergraduate nursing students.
- Support communication efforts through developing content for newsletters, social media, and email outreach to promote student success resources and mentoring opportunities.
- Maintain and analyze data on program engagement, retention, academic outcomes, and student satisfaction to inform continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with SON faculty, staff, peer mentors, and alumni to connect students with relevant resources and opportunities.
- Assist in the evaluation of initiatives and contribute to reports or presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the SON Student Success Program.
Required Qualifications
- Enrolled full-time for Fall and Winter semesters in a graduate program at Oakland University and in good academic standing.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated interest in student development, academic success, or student affairs.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, maintain confidentiality, and work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Familiarity with survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics) and basic data analysis in Excel or similar platforms.
- Foundational knowledge of program evaluation techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with program coordination, peer mentoring, or advising in an academic setting.
- Knowledge of the nursing profession, clinical education, or related health sciences fields.
- Experience designing and delivering workshops or training sessions.
