Child Play Therapist

Job Title: Child Play Therapist (Fully Licensed)

Practice: Novel Therapy, LLC

Employment Type: Part-Time or Full-Time

Location: In-Person/Virtual Hybrid

Population: Children Ages 3-12

Welcome to our practice—a sanctuary for healing and growth located in North Dallas. We believe that true therapy goes far beyond traditional talk methods; it requires an integrative, mind-body-spirit approach to wellness. Our collective of mental health professionals is deeply passionate about helping people get "unstuck" by addressing not just surface-level symptoms, but the root causes of emotional and mental challenges.

We blend evidence-based, neuroscience-informed psychotherapy with nurturing, whole-person approaches to support our clients' emotional, mental, and physical well-being. We firmly believe that the person always comes first, not their symptoms or diagnosis history. Our mission is to walk alongside individuals, couples, and families as they heal, grow, and thrive through life's challenges, providing care that is mindfully curated to their unique needs. All are welcome here.

We include specialized child therapy in our practice dedicated to the emotional growth and healing of children ages 3–12. We are seeking a warm, playful, and highly skilled Child Play Therapist to join our team. This is a unique opportunity for a fully licensed clinician who is passionate about the power of play to shape young lives and wants the autonomy of private practice with the support of a collaborative team.

The Role

As a contract therapist, you will manage your own caseload of child clients, conducting sessions in our fully stocked therapeutic playrooms. You will serve as a specialized resource for families, helping children process trauma, anxiety, behavioral challenges, and developmental changes through the therapeutic powers of play.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care: Provide evidence-based individual play therapy for children ages 3–12, utilizing modalities such as Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), Synergetic Play Therapy, or Adlerian Play Therapy.
  • Parent Collaboration: Conduct regular parent consultations to support caregivers in understanding their child’s progress and implementing strategies at home.
  • Treatment Planning: Complete initial intakes, comprehensive assessments, and individualized treatment plans tailored to the developmental needs of young children.
  • Documentation: Maintain timely and accurate clinical records (progress notes, treatment plans, termination summaries) in compliance with state boards and HIPAA standards.
  • Team Participation: Engage in case consultation and contribute to a supportive clinical environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure: Must hold a full, independent license to practice in Texas (e.g., LPC, LCSW, LMFT). Please note: We are unable to accept associates or interns for this position.
  • Education: Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Preferred minimum of 2 years of post-graduate experience specifically working with children (ages 3–10) and families.
  • Specialized Training: Completion of graduate-level coursework in Play Therapy.
  • Certification: Registered Play Therapist™ (RPT) credential is highly preferred, or current active pursuit of RPT status.

Why Join Us?

Nothing is more satisfying as a play therapist as helping children heal their hurts and learn new ways of approaching life. It’s a privilege to support them as they explore their inner world and discover who they are through toys, art, and creative expression. You are a deeply skilled, fully licensed therapist with a remarkable reservoir of warmth and innovative interventions ready to pour into children and families who come to you feeling lost. You love what you do—and let’s be honest, you are GOOD at it!

However, you might be feeling a bit isolated in your current workspace. You crave a true community of fellow therapists—a supportive, collaborative team you can turn to for advice, resources, and plenty of shared laughter to lighten the heavy nature of the clinical work we do.

You are searching for a private practice setting that honors your autonomy and encourages your creative spirit rather than stifling it. You want the freedom to focus entirely on your clients without the overwhelming stress of managing overhead, billing, or practice logistics. Your ultimate goal is simple: to deeply care for the families you serve in a positive, uplifting environment, and to go home at the end of the day knowing you made a lasting difference.

At Novel Therapy, we provide the dedicated tools, beautiful spaces, and administrative support you need to do exactly that. We handle the nitty-gritty details of running a business so you can pour your passion into your clinical work. Join us to enjoy a vibrant and authentically supportive environment, a collaborative community of fellow counselors, and a highly competitive compensation structure:

  • Autonomy: Enjoy the freedom of a 1099 contract position where you control your schedule and caseload volume.
  • Environment: Work in professional, dedicated play therapy rooms equipped with a wide range of therapeutic toys, sand trays, and expressive arts materials.
  • Growth: Higher earning potential for motivated therapists through our tiered split model.

Compensation

We offer a competitive, performance-based tiered compensation structure designed to reward full-time commitment while supporting part-time flexibility:

  • Tier 1: 50% / 50% split on collected fees for the first 15 sessions per week.
  • Tier 2: 65% (Therapist) / 35% (Practice) split on collected fees for all sessions above 15 per week.
  • Example: If you see 25 clients in a week, you earn 50% on the first 15 and 65% on the remaining 10.
