Supply Chain Intern

Texas Hydraulics is seeking a motivated Supply Chain Intern to support our purchasing team during a focused operational improvement effort. This is a hands-on role centered on day-to-day purchasing support: placing and tracking orders, expediting material, and keeping our planning system clean and current. Alongside the core purchasing work, the intern will take on light data-analysis and process-improvement projects — including exploring practical AI tools — to help the team work faster and catch problems earlier.

It is an ideal opportunity for a student who wants real exposure to manufacturing supply chain operations, ERP/planning systems, and data-driven decision-making within a lean, fast-moving team.

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing support (primary focus):

  • Assist buyers with placing, confirming, and expediting purchase orders to keep production supplied.
  • Monitor open orders and follow up with suppliers on confirmations, ship dates, and past-due deliveries.
  • Help review and act on Oracle ASCP planning signals and daily exception/reorder reports.
  • Maintain accurate item and order data in the ERP system (lead times, dates, quantities, supplier info).
  • Support resolution of receiving, invoice, and order discrepancies.

Data analysis & technical projects (secondary focus):

  • Build and maintain spreadsheets and simple reports (e.g., backlog, on-time delivery, supplier performance).
  • Clean, organize, and summarize purchasing data to surface trends and problem areas.
  • Help test and apply light AI tools to speed up routine tasks such as drafting supplier emails, summarizing reports, and checking data — under team guidance.
  • Document workflows and assist with small process-improvement initiatives.
  • Other technical and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current student pursuing a degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Data/Analytics, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort working with data.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and dependable — able to follow daily routines consistently.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; comfortable contacting suppliers and teammates.
  • Eager to learn, takes initiative, and follows through without close supervision.

Preferred (nice to have):

  • Exposure to an ERP/MRP system (Oracle, SAP, or similar).
  • Familiarity with AI assistants, or data tools such as Power BI, SQL, or Python.
  • Interest in manufacturing, operations, or procurement as a career path.

What You'll Gain

  • Direct, practical experience with manufacturing purchasing and ERP-driven planning.
  • Mentorship from an experienced purchasing team and the Director of Supply Chain.
  • A chance to apply data and AI skills to real operational problems and see the impact.
