About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Bronx Arts and Science Charter School Middle School. The Special Education Teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting student progress and outcomes, addressing individual educational needs, and maintaining a safe, flexible learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Developing and administering curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional materials.
• Conducting ongoing assessments and modifying instruction to fit student needs.
• Maintaining accurate record-keeping, grading, and attendance.
• Ensuring student conduct conforms with school standards.
• Coordinating with staff, supervising student activities, and administering standardized tests.
• Engaging in professional development and maintaining effective communication with parents and students.
• Assist in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for students.
• Assist students and teaching staff in implementing student's IEP and behavior management plans.
• Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations and institutions as needed.
• Coordinate with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs.
• Serve as a resource to students and parents to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth and behavioral management.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required (Master's preferred).
• Valid New York Instructional Certificate and Subject Area Endorsement or eligibility.
• Knowledge of child growth, development, current teaching methods, differentiated instruction, and grade-specific curriculum.
• Ability to demonstrate effective communication, technological proficiency, and maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships.
• Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Requirements:
• Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
• Work Environment: Standard office/school building; requires use of standard equipment (computers, tablets, printers, etc.).
• Travel: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
• Reporting: Reports to the School Director; supervises students.
