Criminal Investigator (Special Agent) - GS 11 - 13
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)
Washington Field Division – Washington, DC

Position Overview
ATF Special Agents investigate and enforce federal laws related to firearms, explosives, arson, violent crime, and criminal organizations. This role involves conducting complex criminal investigations, developing leads, coordinating with partner agencies, and executing operations that protect public safety.

Key Responsibilities
• Conduct complex criminal investigations and gather evidence.
• Lead and support operations including surveillance, searches, seizures, and arrests.
• Identify criminal patterns and develop investigative strategies.
• Prepare clear, detailed reports and communicate findings to partners and prosecutors.
• Collaborate with federal, state, and local law‑enforcement agencies.

Minimum Requirements
• U.S. citizenship.
• Successful completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’s Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to pass a background investigation, drug screening, polygraph, medical exam, and firearms qualification.
• Willingness to sign a mobility agreement and relocate as needed.
