Job Developer and Vocational Counselor
The Job Developer and Vocational Counselor is assigned to the OnTrack program and works as a supportive education and employment specialist (SEES). The SEES uses an evidence-based approach to assist individuals with mental illness to obtain rapid competitive employment and mainstream educational opportunities. SEES workers are fully integrated into the mental health service. The SEES will work as part of a small multidisciplinary team providing coordinated and assertive treatment in the earliest stages of illness. OnTrackNY is a network of innovative mental health treatment programs for teens and young adults across New York State who have recently had unusual thoughts, behaviors, or perceptions (like hearing or seeing things that others don't). OnTrackNY helps people achieve their goals for health and wellness, school, work, and relationships. Equity, inclusion, rapid access, and self-determination are at the core of everything we do.
Responsibilities
- Engaging clients and establishing trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of education or competitive employment in community job settings.
- Providing job development and job search services directed toward positions that are individualized to the interests and uniqueness of the people on his/her caseload, following the principles and procedures of the individual placement and support approach to supported employment.
- Conducting a minimum of 4 employer contacts per week.
- Provide support for education goals in the community, including contact with staff at high schools, colleges and other educational institutions.
- Providing individualized support to assist clients in maintaining employment or education.
- Arranging access to benefits counseling.
- Spending 65% or more of scheduled work hours in the community.
- For example, meeting clients at community locations (e.g. home, workplace, school, coffee shop, library, etc.); taking clients to apply for jobs; investigating local employment options; or meeting with employers regarding job development.
- Maintains record of service contacts.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- BA or BS (Master?s preferred) in psychology or a related field.
- 1 year (higher preferred) of work experience in the field of Human Services.
- MS Word Basic, MS Excel Basic.
- Strong interpersonal skills for engaging and building rapport.
- Ability to manage detailed information in organized and timely manner.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Ability to drive or use public transportation system.
This position is with Mt Sinai but will be working out of the Elmhurst Hospital Center.
