Materials & Process Engineer

Composite Technology Development, Inc. (CTD) is seeking a Materials & Process (M&P) Engineer with knowledge in polymer systems, composite materials, and engineered structures.  CTD is a growing, fast paced, high-technology company developing innovative materials and specialized composite components for aerospace & defense, energy, government, and commercial applications.  This position offers exciting product development challenges, excellent career growth, and promotion potential. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading engineering efforts in the development of new polymer and material systems over a wide range of product lines and application sectors.  This M&P engineer will work directly with structural and design engineers and chemists on multiple projects.  This position will be responsible for the day-to-day technical efforts in new material development and fabrication projects.  Knowledge of and a passion for polymer materials and processing (M&P) is required.  Practical experience in composite materials and composite materials fabrication is a plus. The M&P engineer must be able to work independently, using innovation and creativity, to solve technical processing problems.

Specific responsibilities of the position include:

  • Providing materials and process technical direction for the development, design, and implementation of projects
  • Applying knowledge of material formulation, polymers, and composite materials to guide development and improve the design and performance of CTD products across all industries
  • Must be able to raise issues and risks in a timely manner and work with program management to resolve issues and mitigate risks
  • Recognizing problems or situations that are new and evaluating and/or finding solutions using a systematic, disciplined approach
  • Working with and directing technicians in the performance of materials related R&D and product fabrication tasks
  • Writing process specifications and travelers for the systematic fabrication and production of components and systems
  • Contributing to the daily activities of project team to effect efficient performance and completion of projects
  • Compiling data and writing technical reports

 

Position Requirements

  • A minimum of a B.S. in mechanical engineering, materials science, or equivalent degree (ideal for soon to graduate students)
  • The candidate must be familiar with polymer materials
  • The candidate must be responsible, self-motivated, and able to work closely with other senior technicians, engineers and program managers 
  • Organized and capable of tracking, managing, and resolving technical issues on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong writing skills applied to reports, proposals, and specification documents
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem identification, and problem resolution skills

 

Desired Experience

  • Knowledge of and experience with composite materials and composite processing and fabrication methods
  • Composite materials design
  • Basic polymer chemistry
  • Tooling design
