District Instructional Coach Elementary
Primary Purpose:
To work as a colleague with teachers to support student learning and teacher practice and provide instructional support based on the needs of individual teachers. To provide individual and group professional learning that will expand and refine the understanding and implementation of research-based effective literacy instruction. Designs and implements a wide variety of activities that promote a teaching staff that are highly qualified and able to help all students achieve challenging academic achievement standards. Works cooperatively with district personnel so that a consistently high standard is implemented and maintained in advanced academic programs.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree and five years of teaching experience as an elementary teacher required. ESL Certification preferred. Texas teaching certificate required and Principal Certificate preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Demonstrates willingness to assume leadership positions.
Develops and maintains positive collegial relationships with teachers and administrators.
Communicates and demonstrates knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, the English Language Arts curriculum, Math curriculum and research-based instructional strategies.
Shares effective instructional strategies with teachers individually and/or in workshop settings.
Develops and implements initiatives to promote retention of highly qualified teachers and campus leadership, including programs that provide teacher induction and mentoring.
Provides content expertise to collaborative groups of teachers and administrators.
Provides individual and/or group instructional coaching for teachers to improve classroom instruction for all learners.
Models research-based literacy lessons and/or co-teaches in classrooms.
Assists teachers with instructional decisions based on assessment data.
Supports teachers in planning and implementing literacy instruction that adheres to the district’s philosophy, goals, and curriculum objectives.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the students and teachers involved.
Provides assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.
Participates in professional learning opportunities and encourages ongoing professional development and growth for all teachers.
Presents a positive role model that supports the mission of the district.
Maintains a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Manages time and schedule flexibly to maximize teacher schedules and learning.
Works collaboratively and collegially with other instructional coaches and district instructional specialists. Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Ability to use peripheral devices, high level language programming concepts, data management software, and application development tools.
Posture/Physical Demands: Prolonged sitting; regular kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear, to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and to stand and walk. Motion: Repetitive hand motion; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching; may climb ladders.
Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over).
Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Occasional district-wide travel to multiple campuses, as assigned. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
