Grade 4 and 5 Teacher
Blessed Sacrament Catholic Academy is seeking to fill a Grade 4 and 5 teaching vacancy for the 2026–2027 school year.
Position Overview: The ideal candidate is a dedicated, reflective, and faith-filled educator who is committed to academic excellence, Catholic education, and the holistic development of each child. The successful candidate will embrace collaboration, demonstrate a growth mindset, and work closely with colleagues, instructional coaches, and administration to strengthen instructional practice and improve student outcomes.
Instructional Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction across subject areas using the Gradual Release of Responsibility model (I Do, We Do, You Do).
- Provide rigorous, student-centered instruction that promotes critical thinking, collaboration, and student ownership of learning.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of learners.
- Utilize data-driven instructional practices to continuously monitor student progress and guide instructional decisions, including the use of i-Ready diagnostic and growth data.
- Implement effective instructional strategies, including small-group instruction, checks for understanding, academic discourse, explicit modeling, and purposeful student engagement structures.
- Integrate instructional technology effectively to enhance learning and engagement.
- Maintain clear learning objectives, anchor charts, and classroom routines that support student independence and academic success.
- Develop students’ literacy, numeracy, communication, and problem-solving skills across content areas.
- Prepare students for academic success through consistent skill development, targeted intervention, and ongoing progress monitoring.
- Prepare students in Grade 4 for the New York State Assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics through rigorous instruction, standards alignment, and data-informed teaching practices.
Classroom Culture & Catholic Identity
- Establish and maintain strong classroom management rooted in consistency, structure, accountability, and mutual respect.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and faith-centered classroom culture that reflects Catholic values and supports student growth.
- Serve as a homeroom teacher (as assigned), including leading daily prayer, taking attendance, maintaining routines, and building community.
- Support students in developing character, responsibility, compassion, and respect for others.
- Participate actively in the faith life of the academy, including school liturgies, prayer services, and Catholic traditions.
Family & Community Engagement
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and academic or behavioral concerns.
- Foster strong partnerships with families in support of student success and the mission of the academy.
- Support school events, initiatives, and community-building opportunities that strengthen home-school relationships.
Professional Collaboration & Growth
- Collaborate professionally with colleagues, administration, and support staff to strengthen curriculum and instructional practices.
- Demonstrate openness to feedback and a willingness to work collaboratively with instructional coaches and consultants to enhance teaching practice.
- Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development sessions, intervisitations, and school improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the broader life of the academy through participation in committees, school events, and extracurricular opportunities.
- Be willing to moderate or host student clubs, enrichment opportunities, or afterschool activities that enhance student engagement and school culture.
- Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, initiative, and a commitment to ongoing reflective practice and growth.
Employment Requirements (prior to start date)
- BA Degree or Higher
- Background check clearance
- Signed Diocese of Brooklyn Code of Conduct
- Completion of VIRTUS training
- Up-to-date immunization record
- Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal work authorization
