Executive Director

Title:  Executive Director

Reports to: MSAC Board

Hours: Full Time, $66,000 Annual Salary

Approximate Schedule: Flexible Full Time Schedule, Monday-Friday, 35-40 hours per week (1-3 remote days negotiable) Evenings and weekends may be required occasionally


 

The mission of the Monroe Street Arts Center is to engage a community of learners in exploring the arts and developing the creative self.


 

Responsible for the overall management & growth of MSAC. This includes being a leader for the executive team, staff, and board; maintaining a positive organizational culture; overseeing the fund development program along with ensuring compliance with grantor, federal & state requirements; engaging networks and collaborations throughout the community to further MSAC’s mission. Reports to the Board of Directors.

The Role & Partnership

We are a vibrant, warm, and dedicated community arts and music center. Our daily operations are powered by a highly capable, tight-knit internal staff. We are looking for an inspiring, relationship-driven Executive Director (ED) to serve as our primary external face and strategic leader and to work collaboratively with the Director of Operations (DOO). Together, you will be the pillars of our internal leadership, sharing responsibility for change management, modeling our core values, and setting a positive tone. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

Chief Fundraiser, External Spokesperson & Community Champion

  • Set & Lead Development Strategy: Design and execute a robust fundraising plan.
  • Major Gifts & Individual Donors: Expand and actively maintain a portfolio of major donors and prospects; drive community engagement and authentic relationship-building.
  • Foundations & Corporate Partnerships: Act as the strategic lead and external face.
  • Approach fundraising with confidence: Viewing it as a way to connect people's generosity with our vital mission.
  • Thought Leadership: Represent the center as an innovative voice and leader within the broader community and arts/music landscape.

Financial & Organizational Oversight

  • Financial Acumen: Provide high-level financial and organizational oversight to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Collaborative Budgeting: Set targets for fundraising and develop the annual budget in close partnership with the Director of Operations and the Board of Directors.

Shared Internal Leadership & Culture

  • Model Core Values: Set a high standard for communication, empathy, and transparency across the entire organization.
  • Bridge the Gaps: Ensure an inclusive environment where all staff—from daytime management to evening instructors—feel connected, valued, and supported.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ experience working with a business or non-profit
  • Experience managing faculty, staff & volunteers
  • Experience & dedication to exceptional customer service
  • Experience working with children in a professional environment a plus
  • Knowledge of Madison’s arts, music & nonprofit community a plus
