The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic AI Automation Engineering Intern to help us integrate cutting-edge artificial intelligence into our operational and engineering workflows. You will work directly with our senior engineers and product teams to design, develop, and deploy AI-driven tools that reduce manual effort, optimize processes, and solve complex technical challenges.

This is a hands-on role where your work will have a direct impact on our daily operations. If you are passionate about automation, machine learning, and writing clean, scalable code, we want you on our team.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Develop: Build and test automated workflows using scripting languages and AI tools (such as Large Language Models and computer vision APIs).

Integrate: Connect AI models with our existing internal tools, APIs, and databases to streamline data processing and engineering tasks.

Optimize: Identify bottlenecks in current engineering processes and propose automated, AI-assisted solutions.

Collaborate: Work closely with cross-functional teams to translate technical requirements into reliable software automation.

Document: Maintain clear documentation of the automation architectures, tool usage, and testing protocols for future team adoption.

Required Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program at UC Irvine, preferably within the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS) or the Henry Samueli School of Engineering.

Strong proficiency in Python, C++, or Java.

Familiarity with machine learning concepts, AI APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic), or related frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).

Experience with software version control (Git/GitHub) and basic knowledge of database systems (SQL/NoSQL).

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex workflows into logical, automated steps.

Preferred Qualifications

Coursework or project experience in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Structures, or Systems Engineering.

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) and CI/CD pipelines.

Participation in UCI campus organizations (e.g., AI@UCI, Hack at UCI, or engineering project teams).

A portfolio of personal projects, hackathon builds, or GitHub repositories demonstrating your coding and automation abilities.
