K-5 After School Teacher

Position Title: Kindergarten-5th Grade Program Teacher
Program: Grattan After School Program (GASP)
Status: Part-Time
Schedule: Approximately 20–25 hours per week
Reports To: Executive Director or Designated Supervisor
Hourly Rate: $29.00–$32.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Position Summary

The Program Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating high-quality afterschool programming that supports students' social-emotional growth, academic success, creativity, and overall well-being. This position facilitates enrichment activities, community-building experiences, recreation opportunities, and academic support while providing direct supervision of groups of elementary-aged students.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, collaborative, and committed to creating an engaging, inclusive, and supportive environment where all students can thrive. Program Teachers serve as positive role models who foster meaningful relationships with students, families, school staff, and the broader community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Planning & Facilitation

• Plan, implement, and evaluate weekly enrichment, recreation, academic, and community-building activities.
• Develop engaging, age-appropriate curriculum and project-based learning experiences.
• Facilitate enrichment opportunities that encourage creativity, leadership, collaboration, and skill development.
• Adapt activities to meet the needs and interests of diverse learners.

Student Supervision & Youth Development

• Provide direct supervision of students during indoor and outdoor activities.
• Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
• Support students' social-emotional development through positive relationship-building and restorative practices.
• Facilitate smooth transitions between activities and maintain consistent program expectations.
• Promote positive peer interactions, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.

Family & Community Engagement

• Maintain professional and timely communication with families, school-day staff, and program leadership.
• Build positive relationships with students, families, and community partners.
• Support family engagement events, field trips, and special program activities.

Program Operations

• Assist with snack distribution, setup, and cleanup.
• Help maintain clean, organized, and safe program spaces.
• Support field trips, school-wide events, and special activities.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
• Complete required documentation and administrative tasks as assigned.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support program operations.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with children in educational, recreational, childcare, camp, or youth development settings.
• Ability to work collaboratively with children, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to actively supervise groups of children in both indoor and outdoor environments.
• Commitment to creating equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environments.

Preferred

• College coursework or units in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, Education, Recreation, or a related field.
• Experience planning and facilitating enrichment activities or youth programming.
• Knowledge of social-emotional learning, positive youth development, and restorative practices.
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Bilingual or multilingual skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and participate in physical activities for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, move, or carry program equipment and supplies as necessary.

Employment Requirements

Employment is contingent upon:

• Successful completion of a background check.
• Submission of a negative Tuberculosis (TB) test result.
• Completion of all required hiring paperwork, including Form I-9 verification and employment eligibility documentation.
• Compliance with all Grattan After School Program policies and procedures.
