Research Assistant

POSITION TITLE:  Research Assistant (Part-Time)
REPORTS TO: Chief Scientific Officer (CSO)


SCOPE/DESCRIPTION:
The Research Assistant is responsible for performing experimental in vivo research, animal care & monitoring, and data collection in small and large animal models. Assistance with in vitro assessments to evaluate cell quality and function may be required. Research focus areas include, but not limited to, diabetes and cancer. Availability for 1-3 hours on weekends (Saturday
and Sunday) is required. Total hours needed may vary depending on experimental needs but anticipated to be approximately 5-10 hours/week.


PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist with in vivo experiments involving small and large animal models.
• Assist in animal care and monitoring, including relevant documentation.
• Perform glucose monitoring, insulin injections, and procedures in experiments
involving small and large animal models.
• Perform scientific laboratory duties as instructed in standard operating procedures (SOPs), following aseptic technique.
• Operate scientific instrumentation and specialized apparatus in accordance with defined guidelines.
• Perform cell-based analytical assays to evaluate cell function and quality.
• Maintain responsibility and confidentiality for specimen labeling and verification.
• Prepare reagents and solutions necessary for experimental testing.
• Use dexterity, knowledge, and ability to complete assigned laboratory tasks and skills, with attention to detail and compliance with all appropriate laboratory regulatory and safety requirements.


QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering or other related scientific fields.
• Prior experience in animal research preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Must be highly detail oriented.
• Must have the ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule which will require weekend/holiday work
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
