Columbus Audubon is a conservation nonprofit dedicated to protecting birds, wildlife, and habitats throughout Central Ohio through education, advocacy, and community engagement.
Summary
We are seeking a passionate and organized intern to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual interested in conservation, non-profit management, communications, and community engagement. You will play a key role in helping us execute our monthly programming and maintain our digital presence.
Term of Employment
- Duration: September 2026 – April 2027
- Hours: Up to 10 hours per week (flexible schedule, with some evenings required for events)
Benefits
- $16 per hour
- Flexible schedule (outside of required event times).
- Hybrid position with remote work and attendance required for monthly Columbus-area events.
Duties
The intern will dedicate up to 10 hours per week to the following key areas:
Monthly Programs & Events Support (Approximately 50%)
- Assist the Programs Committee with the planning and execution of our monthly public programs (typically held on a weeknight).
- Fundraising: administrative, research, and communication tasks to support the fundraising team and engage with donors and sponsors.
- Volunteers: recruitment, retention, coordination, and communication with volunteers.
- Coordinate event logistics, including securing venues, arranging necessary equipment (projector, sound system, etc.), and managing RSVPs.
- Help create and distribute promotional materials for events (e.g., flyers, email announcements).
- Set up and tear down event spaces, including managing the welcome table and membership sign-ups.
Communications & Digital Media (Approximately 40%)
- Develop and schedule engaging content for our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram) to promote events, share conservation news, and highlight chapter activities.
- Assist with routine website updates using our content management system (CMS) to ensure program schedules, news, and resources are current and accurate.
- Track social media metrics and provide insights to improve engagement.
- Draft and edit content for email newsletters and announcements.
Organizational & Administrative Support (Approximately 10%)
- Maintain and organize digital files, including photos and program materials.
- Assist with volunteer coordination for specific events.
- General administrative tasks as needed to support the chapter board and committees.
Qualifications
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a college/university program (e.g., Communications, Marketing, Non-profit Management, Environmental Studies, Biology, or a related field).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram) for content creation and scheduling.
- Familiarity with or a willingness to learn basic website content management (experience with WordPress or similar CMS is a plus).
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- A genuine interest in birds, wildlife, and environmental conservation is highly desirable.
- Must have reliable transportation to attend monthly events in the Columbus area.
- Part of this internship will be completed remotely, therefore reliable access to a working computer with a webcam and microphone, as well as a high-speed internet connection, is required.
