LKSD is the largest rural school district in Alaska, serving approximately 4,000 Yup’ik students across 27 schools with a team of 250 teachers and specialists. Our communities are located along the Kuskokwim River and Bering Sea coast, covering a geographic area comparable to the size of West Virginia.

Your Role as a School Counselor
As a school counselor in LKSD, you will:
Assist students in realistic self-assessment and academic planning
Support students in selecting and completing an educational program that aligns with their abilities and goals
Help students adjust to the social, emotional, and academic demands of school
Guide students in exploring and preparing for postsecondary and vocational opportunities
Collaborate with teachers to enhance student success
Participate in evaluating and improving school programs and curriculum
Communicate with parents about student progress, challenges, and opportunities
Assist families in post-high school planning and understanding student needs
Oversee administration of the school-wide testing program
Perform other duties necessary for the success of the counseling program and school community

A valid Alaska Type C Certificate (or eligibility to obtain one)
A degree or certification in school counseling

Compensation and Benefits
LKSD provides competitive compensation and benefits to support your success:
Salary: $59,381–$102,722 per year
Signing Bonus: $2,000
