Graphic Designer & Laser Operator

Job Title: Graphic Designer & Laser Operator

Location: Tyler, TX
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule:  Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, 

Reports To: Production Manager/Owner

 

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and creative Graphic Designer & Laser Operator to join our trophy and awards business. This role combines artistic design expertise with technical proficiency in laser engraving/cutting equipment to produce high-quality custom trophies, plaques, and awards. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Graphic Design Duties:

  • Design and customize trophy/award layouts using software (CorelDRAW, Photoshop, Lightburn).
  • Collaborate with clients and sales teams to create visually appealing artwork for engraving, etching, or printing.
  • Prepare digital files for production (vectorizing artwork, adjusting dimensions, ensuring print/engraving readiness).
  • Maintain a library of design templates, fonts, and graphics for recurring projects.
  • Proof and revise designs based on client feedback or production requirements.

 

Laser Operation Duties:

  • Operate and maintain laser engraving/cutting machines (e.g., Epilog, Trotec, Universal) for materials like acrylic, glass, wood, and metal.
  • Calibrate laser settings (speed, power, resolution) for optimal results on different materials.
  • Load/unload materials, align designs, and monitor machine performance during production.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in finished products.
  • Troubleshoot minor technical issues and perform routine machine maintenance.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with inventory management of trophies, blanks, and engraving supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Support other production tasks (e.g., assembly, packaging) as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Experience:
    • Experience in graphic design (trophy/award industry experience a plus).
    • Hands-on experience with laser engraving/cutting equipment.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Basic knowledge of CorelDRAW.
    • Ability to interpret client requests and translate them into production-ready designs.
    • Basic understanding of file formats (SVG, AI, DXF, PDF) and color management.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong attention to detail and time management.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team.
    • Creative problem-solving under deadlines.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 30 lbs, and handle delicate materials.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of rotary attachment engraving for cylindrical items (e.g., cups).
