Lancaster County Academy is an alternative high school serving students from school districts throughout Lancaster County. LCA provides a small, supportive, student-centered environment focused on individualized academics, career readiness, and helping students achieve “Success Beyond the Struggles.”

Position Summary

Lancaster County Academy is seeking a dependable, flexible, and student-centered Math Teacher to provide individualized instruction and academic support to high school students working toward graduation.

LCA students progress through courses at their own pace and may enter the program with different skill levels, credit needs, and educational experiences. The Math Teacher must be able to meet students where they are while maintaining clear expectations for academic effort, mastery, attendance, and progress.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and support in high school mathematics courses, including Algebra, Geometry, Consumer Math, and other assigned courses.
  • Work individually and in small groups with students who have varied academic abilities and learning needs.
  • Explain mathematical concepts using clear, practical, and engaging instructional strategies.
  • Review student transcripts and academic needs in collaboration with administration.
  • Assign appropriate mathematics courses and monitor students’ progress toward completion.
  • Grade assignments, assessments, projects, and written work accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain organized and accurate student grades, course records, and progress documentation.
  • Ensure students complete all course requirements and demonstrate at least 80% mastery before earning credit.
  • Develop or revise instructional materials, assignments, assessments, and course resources as needed.
  • Provide additional instruction, remediation, and test preparation for students who need support.
  • Participate in small-group progress interventions for students who are not meeting monthly academic expectations.
  • Communicate professionally with students, families, staff, and sending school districts regarding student progress.
  • Document academic concerns, interventions, parent contacts, and student accomplishments.
  • Encourage students to develop persistence, problem-solving skills, responsibility, and confidence.
  • Supervise students and support school procedures during arrival, dismissal, break, and other assigned times.
  • Follow LCA policies related to student safety, discipline, technology, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
  • Attend required staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Perform other duties necessary to support student achievement and school operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Current Pennsylvania teaching certification in Mathematics or eligibility to obtain an appropriate emergency permit.
  • Strong knowledge of secondary mathematics content.
  • Ability to explain mathematical concepts in multiple ways.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
  • Dependable attendance and professional conduct.
  • Commitment to working with students who may have experienced academic, behavioral, attendance, or personal challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous secondary mathematics teaching experience.
  • Experience in alternative education, special education, credit recovery, or individualized instruction.
  • Experience teaching students with diverse learning needs.
  • Knowledge of Pennsylvania academic standards.
  • Experience developing curriculum and assessments.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace and digital instructional platforms.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth.

Clearances and Requirements

The selected candidate must obtain and maintain all clearances and training required for employment in a Pennsylvania school setting, including:

  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance
  • FBI fingerprint-based background check
  • Mandated reporter training
  • Employment history review documentation

Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining required certification, permits, clearances, and compliance with LCA policies.
