Job Description
Job Summary:
The District Webmaster is responsible for the administration, maintenance, accessibility, and continuous improvement of the Fort Mill School District's district website, school websites and athletics sites. This position serves as the district's primary resource for website management, content strategy, accessibility compliance, search optimization, analytics, and user experience. The district webmaster works closely with schools, departments, and district leadership to ensure website content is accurate, accessible, engaging, and aligned with district communication goals. This role also supports employee recruitment, digital communications, livestreaming, and the effective use of emerging technologies to strengthen the district's online presence and public communication efforts.

Essential Duties:
Website Strategy and Management
- Develop and implement a long-term strategy for district and school websites.
- Where needed, establish website standards, style guides, procedures and publishing workflows.
- Ensure consistent branding, design, navigation and user experience across district and school sites.
- Evaluate emerging web technologies and recommend improvements to support district goals.
- Serve as the district authority on website best practices
Website Administration and Content Management
- Manage and maintain the district website and all school websites, with input from school webmasters and staff.
- Create, edit, publish and archive website content.
- Ensure content remains current, accurate and relevant.
Accessibility and Compliance
- Lead district efforts to maintain compliance with ADA and WCAG accessibility standards.
- Conduct accessibility audits and coordinate remediation efforts.
- Ensure compliance with all SC Department of Education requirements.
School Website Support
- Assist schools with content organization, page development, and publishing practices.
- Monitor school websites for compliance with district standards.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for website-related support requests.
Content Quality and User Experience
- Ensure content is error free, written clearly and presented in a user-friendly manner.
- Optimize website organization and navigation to improve the user experience.
CMS and Technical Administration
- Manage user permissions, workflows, templates, and page structures.
- Coordinate with technology staff and website vendors regarding system updates and support.
- Troubleshoot website issues and coordinate resolution when necessary.
Communications Support
- Publish emergency notifications, closures, alerts, and high-priority communications.
- Support integration of website content with social media, email communications, and other digital platforms.
- Assist with photography, graphics, and multimedia content used on district websites when appropriate.
Analytics
- Monitor website traffic, user behavior, and engagement metrics.
- Identify opportunities to improve website effectiveness and accessibility.
- Track performance of key pages.
- Use data to inform website structure, content placement, and user experience improvements.
- Compile website analytics reports as needed.
Search Engine Optimization and AI
- Optimize website content, page structure, metadata, and navigation to improve visibility in search engine results.
- Analyze website search trends and user behavior to improve content organization and discoverability.
- Ensure website content is accurate, well-organized, and written in a format that supports both traditional search engines and AI-generated search results.
- Develop content structures that improve discoverability in AI-powered search tools and generative search experiences.
- Optimize district and school websites to support employee recruitment, student enrollment, and community engagement goals.
- Develop content strategies that improve the district's visibility in searches related to teaching careers, academic programs, and community partnerships.
- Monitor website performance metrics and search rankings to ensure district content remains competitive and accessible.
Additional Responsibilities
- Coordinate website launches for new schools and district programs.
- Stay current on trends, laws, and best practices related to K-12 websites, accessibility, digital communications, and content management systems.
- Assist with the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of live-streamed district events, including Board of Trustees meetings, public forums, and special events (including graduation).
- Support recruitment campaigns through website and digital platforms.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, web design, digital media, communications, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in website design, website administration, digital content management, or related web-based communications work, including experience maintaining multi-site environments and content management systems.
- Must have knowledge of SEO best practices, search analytics, and website performance metrics to maximize visibility, engagement, and user experience.
- Experience with website content management systems, web accessibility standards, and compliance requirements, including WCAG, W3C, ADA, Section 504, and Section 508 preferred.
- Experience using website analytics tools, digital publishing platforms, and multimedia technologies, including livestreaming and video content management preferred.
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication, customer service, project management, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively with staff at all levels of the organization.
Terms of Employment: 240-contract days per year, 8 hours per day, Exempt-level position
Salary: Fort Mill School District S2 Salary Schedule
Evaluation: Performance on this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s Policy on evaluation of certified/non-certified personnel.
