Button Poetry: Independent Publishing Internship - FALL SEMESTER


 

Job Description

Button Poetry, a small independent poetry press in the Twin Cities, is looking for a Publishing Intern to join our team for the Fall 2026 semester! This is a part-time internship. This internship is for both credit and a stipend upon completion. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to us! 

Overview:

At the start of this cross departmental role, an intern will learn the ropes of shipping. This role includes packaging and shipping customer orders, assisting with new product intake and inventory placements, bookmarking signed copies, & keeping shelf inventory stocked, in addition to other tasks as assigned.

After learning the shipping ins and outs, this role will allow an intern to engage with the publishing department through tasks including, but not limited to: publishing resource creation, manuscript review & resizing, drafting book descriptions, creation of manuscript samples, preparation of manuscripts for interior design and print production, ISBN Creation, blurb trimming, and more! 

Finally, the Publishing intern may be trained on tasks from the Social Media and Audio and Video departments at Button. Additional rotating tasks in these spaces may include contest judging, content scheduling, book quote graphic creation, creating and editing audio/video content for use across various platforms and more.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Strong critical thinking abilities
  • Attention to detail

Preferred Skills: Ability to prioritize, manage time effectively, detailed data entry, strong written communication skills, previous copy editing experience, determined and a passion for literature and the arts

  • The Publishing Intern is frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls. 
  • The Publishing Intern must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, The Publishing Intern is regularly required to be independently mobile.
  • The Publishing Intern is also required to interact with a computer and communicate with peers and co-workers.

Schedule:

  • 4-12 hours a week
  • Work must take place during Button's business hours of Monday - Friday between 8am-5pm central time
  • There may be an opportunity for additional after hours work supporting Live Events
  • The Internship lasts the length of the Fall 2026 semester as defined by your school's academic calendar.
  • The start date is flexible, though ideally we would start the 2nd or 3rd week of the semester depending on your school's academic calendar. 
  • Similarly, the end date is flexible, ideally the internship would end in the 2nd or 3rd week of the final month of the semester, depending on your school's academic calendar.

Compensation:

  • This internship is unpaid.
  • We would love to work with you to make this internship meet the qualifications you need to fit in order to earn school credit upon completion of the internship.
  • Upon completion of the full internship, a stipend will be offered.
