Who We’re Looking For:
With the ability to imagine something before it exists, nurture it, and establish its positive impact, the Children Ministries Coordinator at Servant’s needs a creative spirit. We have a community of children who need strong attention and care, and families from around the neighborhood looking for good structure. We’re looking for a Children Ministries Coordinator who can sustain and encourage our current volunteer base, keep children safe, all while communicating the love of Jesus. The ability to care for littles and volunteers, while also imagining a bright and hope-filled future makes all the difference.
Who We Are:
Servant’s Community Church is a small-yet-vibrant community on the West Side of Grand Rapids, and we’re growing! A group of community members who gather each week to eat, pray, and sing—together we are seeking out the Spirit’s leading in our lives. We face unique challenges as well as exciting opportunities in a rapidly changing part of town. Even with all the changes life brings, one thing has remained constant:
God is moving and leading our lives.
As we envision a community of transformation, children come to the front of our minds. The world throws so many challenges at the children we encounter each week, and we seek to meet them with kindness, joy, and hope. This commitment to the good care of our young people is rooted in some of our core values. Community-oriented, deeply hopeful, passionate about the movement of God’s Spirit, committed to one another—well, you get the idea. There is so much more to share about SCC, and we’d love to do so! About Our Children Programs:
It’s an exciting time to come on as the Children Ministries Coordinator at Servant’s. The person who takes this role will be met with:
- Intentionally crafted children’s spaces (rooms and programs that creatively blend flexibility, stability, and developmental needs)
- A growing group of kiddos
- Energetic and committed volunteers
- Great ministry partners
- A ministry team eager to run with this good energy!
Our deepest hope for children’s programming at Servant’s is that our children would feel safe, like they belong, and know a little more each day about God’s love for them. When we say “our children” we mean the kids of our church members, as well as neighborhood kids who show up at Servant’s each week. Sunday mornings include kids church experiences with story, art, and movement. If you came on for this role, you would be responsible for maintaining these spaces, and for imagining what these spaces might hold in the next season of our growing families.
An exciting opportunity in this role is our Wednesday evening event: Family Feast. As community and neighborhood members gather around the table to share—a meal, stories of their lives, our wrestling, our encouragement—we are starting to see opportunities to connect with children and their families during this event. The person who comes into this role would get to work hand-in-hand with our pastor and staff team to develop and implement Wednesday-night ministries directed toward our young people.
We’re not interested in programming for programming’s sake. Instead, we’re anticipating an exciting space where the real lives of the kids in the neighborhood are met with compassion and energy. If you want to help create a future that is compassionate, just, welcoming, and safe for young people on the West Side, we'd love to hear from you.
