JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, repair, retrofitting, deinstallation, and training of Heller ovens. The role requires providing high-level technical support, including troubleshooting complex system issues, performing in-depth diagnostics, and offering tailored solutions to ensure optimal system performance and reliability for customers. This involves analyzing technical problems, identifying root causes, and implementing effective repairs or adjustments to maximize equipment uptime. The engineer will also work closely with customers to ensure that all systems are running efficiently, meeting operational standards, and delivering long-term reliability. Due to customer requirements, the candidate must be a US citizen and capable of passing a federal background check. When not traveling, this position is on-site in the company’s Florham Park, NJ headquarters facility.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Support Heller Product lines at domestic US customers, Canada and Mexico
  • Work directly with customers and internal teams to understand, rapidly diagnose and resolve equipment issues efficiently at all customer sites.   
  • Provide technical training at customer facilities, ensuring comprehensive understanding of equipment operation.   
  • Produce concise, comprehensive, and accurate documentation of test reports and work instructions
  • Provide diagnostic information, repair procedures and specific technical assistance to distributors and/or customers
  • Perform root cause failure analysis on sub-systems, circuits, and components in a timely manner
  • Perform new machine installations, de-installations, and field upgrades
  • Provide serviceability requirements and design for serviceability input for new product development programs
  • Create and assist in the release of Engineering documentation including bill or materials, engineering change orders, corrective action reports, and operational method sheets
  • Support logistics activities (RMAs, FAs, inventory checks, shipping, etc.) at local offices and customer sites
  • Offer technical applications support to end users

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • AS or higher degree in engineering or sciences (BA/BS is preferred)
  • 5+ years working as an engineering technician or field service engineer. AS in Engineering, Technology or equivalent
  • 5+ years’ experience in trouble-shooting electrical, electronic, mechanical systems, surface mount technology (SMT) equipment and/or semiconductor equipment
  • Familiarity with equipment troubleshooting including root cause identification and problem-solving approaches such as 7-step or 8D 
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Windows applications including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel to customer facilities (up to 80% of time) and work weekends as critical needs arise
  • Ability to travel internationally on occasion to support global customers
  • Proficiency is Spanish Language is a plus

 

WORK REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to sit for 2-3 hours at a time.
  • Must be able to transport tool kits weighing approximately 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb over equipment; sometimes in narrow spaces for repair.
  • Physical ability to lift-up to 100 pounds with assistance and perform tasks involving stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.  
  • Ability to get full face respirator certified and perform machine actions in PPE (respirator, hazmat suit, gloves, etc.)
  • Proximity to a major airport
