External Affairs Intern

Founded in 1917, the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) is the trade association representing all American music publishers and their songwriting partners. Its mission is to protect, promote, and advance the interests of music’s creators. 

The primary responsibilities of the External Affairs Intern include assisting the External Affairs team with research and tasks pertaining to the organization’s public relations, events, member communications, web and social media presence.  

The ideal candidate will be currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, government affairs, or a similar field. Events experience is a plus. 

They will report to the Director, External Affairs. Position may require travel. Work hours can be adjusted based on class schedule.

Duties: 

  • Assist with maintenance and growth of External Affairs contact lists 
  • Conduct research on member certifications and input findings into proprietary database
  • Assist in planning and executing marketing efforts to key client groups 
  • Assist with event logistics and preparations
  • Serve as on-site support at events: assist with set-up, check-in, management of talent and perform other duties as assigned
  • Proof-read press releases, membership communications and other written content
  • Assist with graphic creations for social media and print
  • Other duties as assigned 

Skills: The External Affairs Intern should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Ideal candidates will have a passion for music and possess an interest in event planning, public relations, government affairs, communications, design or other similar fields. 

They must have outstanding attention to detail and be a self-starter and creative thinker. 

Strong knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Google Workplace, and social media platforms is preferred. Experience and interest in graphic design is a plus.
