Architectural-Engineering Intern

POSITION TITLE:                    Architectural-Engineering Student Intern

STATUS:                                   Casual – NTE 1040 hours

SALARY:                                   $20/hr. DOE

BASIC FUNCTION:

The intern will assist the Borough’s Project Manager with an assortment of architectural or engineering design and construction tasks. The predominance of work will be construction observation in the field, consultant, and contractor interactions, and drafting with AutoCAD on various construction projects. This internship is part-time during the fall and spring semesters and full-time during the summer.

Typical Duties

1. Assist Project Managers in successful execution of design and construction projects
2. On-site survey, observations, investigation, and documentation of facilities condition.
3. Attend construction meetings and prepare construction reports.
4.  Perform construction inspection of various project.
5. Drafting with AutoCAD and Revit software.
6. Generate as-built drawings.
7. Serve as a representative of the Borough on project sites, displaying professionalism, consideration, and discretion in all interactions
8. Miscellaneous duties which apply to the daily operations of design and construction projects.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current enrollment in a college or university and pursuing a curriculum in architecture, engineering, construction management or a related field. 
2. Experience in design and construction preferred.
3. Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit is preferred but not required.
4. Proficiency in operation of personal computers (Microsoft Word and Excel preferred).
5. Familiarity with reading and interpreting architectural and engineering plans/drawings preferred but not necessary.
6. Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver’s license. Must meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough's insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of automobile insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED UPON REQUEST)

1. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
2. Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and questions and handle multiple tasks using independent judgement.
3. Ability to deal with the public in a tactful, courteous, and pleasant manner.
OTHER
1. This position requires a criminal background check.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY:
Does not supervise: experiences minor problems that must be resolved using own initiative and ingenuity. The consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgement require minimal effort to recover.
