Emergency Medical Specialist Trainee

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SPECIALIST TRAINEE-Exam No. 6126

Emergency Medical Specialist Trainees attend a training program conducted by the New York City Fire Department. Emergency Medical Specialist Trainees receive Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and emergency medical service operations training and instruction covering basic anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology of emergency medicine, basic treatment modalities for health-related emergencies, hazardous materials orientation, NYS Right to Know Laws, blood borne pathogens and infectious disease control, clinical assessment skills, multiple casualty incident (MCI) management, emergency vehicle operations, and related topics. Emergency Medical Specialist Trainees are given practice in applicable patient treatment skills and perform clinical rotations in the field and in hospitals.

STEPS TO APPLY FOR JOB:

2. At the top, right-hand corner of page, click Login (if you already have an account with DCAS) or Register to create an account.
3. After logging in, you must first go to Dashboard,  then to Profile.
4. Review Personal Information, then save.
5. On the left-hand corner of page, select Education then add education starting from High School Diploma or its educational equivalent. Then add all other education under related headings and save.
6. On the left-hand corner of page, select and add Professional Experience and save.
7. On the left-hand corner of page, select and add relevant License/Professional Certificates.
8. Check Profile Summary to ensure all records have been successfully added or updated.
9. At the top of page select Exams, click the blue drop down arrow beside exam name and exam #, then select Apply.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent; and one of the following:

(a) Six months of full-time satisfactory employment demonstrating reliable work habits; or

(b) Full-time U.S. military service with an honorable discharge; or

(c) Successful completion of 15 semester credits from an accredited college or university; or

2. Graduation after completion of FDNY approved Emergency Medical Services coursework at a New York City High School or Vocational Training Center.

Note: If you possess a current valid EMT certificate, in any state, you are not eligible for the Emergency Medical Specialist Trainee title.
