Student Assistant in Research Lab (School of Medicine)

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Animal (mouse) husbandry and genotyping
  • Mouse breeding, ear punches, ear tagging, weaning, and database management.
  • Immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy (on an as needed basis)
  • Preparing and maintaining stock and working solutions
  • Maintaining detailed records of all experiments in lab notebook
  • Participating in weekly group meetings (including occasional presentations of your work or related topics of interest)

 

Requirements

  • Preferred but not required: Hands-on experience in basic lab techniques, standard lab equipment (relevant coursework counts) and mouse handling. (i.e. Prior experience working with mice is a plus but not required)
  • Ability to learn new techniques, protocols, and complex tasks with general instruction.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in an organized and detail-oriented manner.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with all levels of lab staff.
  • Proficiency with MS Office / Google sheets and willingness to learn new software as needed.

 

Time Commitment

1 year commitment and can be renewed. Minimum 5-20 hours/week.
