Teacher Assistant (Primary)

The Primary Teacher Assistant supports classroom teachers in providing a safe, engaging, and student-centered learning environment for students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. The TA assists with instructional activities, classroom management, student supervision, and daily classroom operations to promote academic achievement and social-emotional development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Support

  • Assist teachers with the implementation of daily lessons and instructional activities.
  • Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning objectives in reading, mathematics, science, social studies, and writing.
  • Support differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  • Prepare instructional materials, classroom resources, and learning centers.
  • Assist with student assessments, data collection, and progress monitoring as directed by the teacher.

Classroom Management

  • Help maintain a positive, organized, and productive classroom environment.
  • Reinforce school-wide and classroom behavioral expectations.
  • Support students during classroom transitions and daily routines.
  • Encourage positive social interactions, problem-solving skills, and student responsibility.

Student Supervision

  • Monitor and supervise students during classroom activities, lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, field trips, and other school-related events.
  • Ensure student safety and well-being at all times.
  • Assist students with organizational skills, classroom procedures, and age-appropriate personal needs.

Administrative and Organizational Support

  • Organize and maintain classroom materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with clerical tasks, including copying, filing, preparing materials, and maintaining student records.
  • Support classroom setup, bulletin boards, and displays that showcase student learning.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, support staff, and families to support student success.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and information.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development activities, and school events as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or coursework in Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students in a school, childcare, or educational setting preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated patience, flexibility, and a commitment to student success.
