COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

ACP Chemistry (Advanced College Prep)

A rigorous, college-preparatory chemistry course designed for academically advanced students. Topics include atomic structure, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, thermodynamics, kinetics, and equilibrium. Students develop laboratory skills and scientific reasoning at an accelerated pace.


 

CP Chemistry (College Prep)

A college-preparatory chemistry course covering foundational topics in matter, energy, the periodic table, chemical reactions, and solutions. Emphasis is placed on laboratory investigation, data analysis, and real-world application of chemical principles.


 

CP Marine Science (College Prep)

An introductory college-preparatory course exploring marine ecosystems, oceanography, coastal geology, and the biology of marine organisms. Lab work, field investigations, and current environmental topics are central to the curriculum.


 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction for all five sections
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of ACP and CP learners
  • Design, conduct, and supervise hands-on laboratory activities with proper safety protocols
  • Develop and administer assessments; maintain accurate grade records
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Participate in department meetings, professional development, and school committees
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and welcoming classroom environment
  • Collaborate with department chair on curriculum alignment and scope/sequence


 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Massachusetts licensure (or eligibility) in Science — Chemistry or General Science
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Marine Science, Biology, or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at multiple levels (ACP and CP)
  • Experience with laboratory safety and hands-on science instruction


 

Preferred:

  • Prior experience teaching Chemistry and/or Marine Science at the secondary level
  • Familiarity with standards-based grading and curriculum mapping
  • Experience working with diverse learners in a college-preparatory setting
