Teaching Artist for Older Adult Veterans
SilverKite® Community Arts, LLC is hiring teaching artists / educators based in or around Spokane, Orting, Walla Walla and / or Port Orchard, Washington to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate an in-person arts class for Veterans ages 65+ from a variety of ethnic, cultural, and employment backgrounds focused on creating simple but amazing arts projects which will be showcased in an exhibit
- Teaching artists may also be hired as “workshop assistants” who will be paid to assist the lead teaching artist in the facilitation of the workshop
- Create and facilitate a welcoming creative and courageous space for participants
- Encourage interaction and relationship building between participants
- Arrive to the venue at least 30 minutes early to set up and stay 30 minutes afterwards to answer questions and clean up
- Workshops will be held in the four Washington State Veteran's Homes in Orting, Port Orchard, Walla Walla and Spokane
- Paid training will be provided
Requirements
- Some facilitation / teaching experience required
- Passionate about the arts and its role in strengthening community
- Interest in working with older adults
- Knowledge in one or more of these art forms: collage, watercolor, movement / dance, memoir writing
- Ability to assist participants in completing a work of art during a one hour workshop

- After we review your application / resume we will contact you for a Zoom interview. Successful interviewees will be invited to participate in a paid ($250 stipend) training opportunity. Trainings will be held at the four Washington Veterans' Homes in Orting (dates TBD), Walla Walla (Aug 4 & 5), Spokane (September 22 & 23), and Port Orchard (August 25 & 26). Teaching Artists will need to attend only one of these trainings. In order to be considered for this position you will need to attend the training
- Those successfully completing the training will be hired to teach or assist with in-person arts workshops at the Veterans' Homes. Teaching artists will be paid $50 - 86.50 per contact hour depending on role.
