The City of Keene is seeking a motivated and collaborative Civil Engineer to help plan, design, and deliver a wide range of public infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, water and sewer systems, stormwater facilities, parks, trails, and other municipal improvements. This is an exciting opportunity to work on projects that make a lasting difference while engaging with residents, City leaders, consultants, and community stakeholders.
What You'll Do
As a Civil Engineer, you'll be involved in every phase of project development—from planning and design to construction oversight and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee engineering consultants, surveyors, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Plan, design, and prepare construction documents for a variety of municipal infrastructure projects.
- Develop cost estimates, specifications, schedules, and project budgets.
- Administer and monitor capital improvement projects funded through local, state, and federal programs.
- Conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with engineering standards, permits, and approved plans.
- Review engineering recommendations and implement solutions for infrastructure improvements.
- Manage construction contracts, schedules, change orders, budgets, and project documentation.
- Conduct surveys, field studies, and site assessments to support project development.
- Collaborate with Public Works divisions and other City departments to provide engineering expertise and project support.
- Present project updates and recommendations to City leadership, boards, commissions, and the public.
- Lead community engagement efforts through public meetings, presentations, media outreach, and stakeholder discussions.
This position is subject to standby and callback during non-regular working hours, weekends and holidays. During the construction season and emergency respond events this position is subject to longer working hours.

Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering plus at least 3 years of professional civil engineering experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering examination is required and a Professional Engineer’s License in the State of NH is desired.
Salary and Benefits
As of 7/1/2026, this full-time position offers a competitive salary range of $77,619– $96,727 annually and will also receive an attractive benefits package which includes low deductible/low-cost health insurance, low-cost dental insurance, State of NH Group I retirement, and other benefits such as life insurance, disability, and paid time off. Municipal employees may also qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
