Childcare Volunteer Placement in Ghana

About SFLIG Volunteers: SFLIG Volunteers is a registered, trusted grassroots non-profit organization operating on-the-ground in Ghana, West Africa. We connect passionate global citizens with local communities to create sustainable social impact, support early education, and empower disadvantaged youth.

Program Overview: Our Childcare Volunteer Program places volunteers directly into nurseries, community schools, daycares, and children's homes where you will nurture the growth, safety, and development of local children. Many community centers handle large class sizes with limited staffing; your presence brings crucial support and positive encouragement to children who need it most.

Specific Project Locations & Centers: SFLIG Volunteers operates across several dedicated community hubs. Volunteers are placed directly at one of our following locations:

Kasoa Hub: Buduburam Refugee Children Centre, Saviour Foundation Home, Good Shepherd School, and Pure Heart Refuge Centre.

Kumasi Hub: Cherubs Children’s Home and All Nations Children’s Home.

Cape Coast Hub: Challenge Children’s Home.

Your Role & Key Activities:

Support Local Caregivers: Assist local teachers and day staff with managing daily routines, meal distributions, and classroom activities.

Basic Learning & Literacy: Help children with early educational foundations such as reading, basic writing, numbers, and storytelling.

Organize Recreation: Lead creative arts and crafts, teach fun playground games, or organize music and sports activities.

Provide Compassionate Mentorship: Offer individual emotional support, positive attention, and care to children of various age groups.

Weekend Tours & Local Cultural Experiences: Immerse yourself fully in the rich, vibrant culture of Ghana! In addition to your impactful weekday project volunteer work, your placement includes incredible opportunities to explore and learn:

Cultural Immersion: Participate in traditional drumming and dance lessons, try authentic Ghanaian dishes (like Jollof rice, Waakye, and Fufu), and join interactive local language lessons (Twi) during your orientation.

Weekend Sightseeing Tours: Explore iconic historical landmarks like the Cape Coast Castle, hike the canopy walkways high above the rainforest at Kakum National Park, relax at beautiful Atlantic beaches, and explore the bustling open-air cultural markets in Kumasi.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Who Can Apply: Anyone with an open heart who loves working with children! This position is ideal for Education, Child Development, Social Work, Psychology, Anthropology, and Sociology majors looking for international field experience.

No prior formal teaching or childcare experience is strictly required; we value patience, responsibility, adaptability, and high enthusiasm.

Must be cooperative, proactive, and willing to work in environments with limited resources.

What Is Included in Your Secure Placement:

Safe Accommodation: Secure housing provided within a friendly volunteer house compound or local host family.

Logistics Support: Airport pickup upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport (ACC) and a comprehensive local orientation program.

24/7 Assistance: On-the-ground support from our dedicated local team and programmatic staff.

Academic References: Upon successful completion, volunteers receive an official Certificate of Appreciation and formal Letters of Recommendation serving as long-term professional references for future academic or career goals.

Please note: As a grassroots NGO, our international programs are self-funded. Selected participants cover an affordable, structured program placement fee that directly manages secure accommodation, local food, in-country staff operations, and community project donations. Placements operate all-year-round with highly flexible durations starting from a minimum of 2 weeks.
