Black Connect is seeking a Social Media Intern to help develop and schedule content for Black Business Month in August. The intern will help highlight Black-owned businesses, entrepreneurship, and the larger Black Connect ecosystem.
This is a short-term summer internship with a clear deliverable: building and scheduling Black Business Month content.
Responsibilities
- Help build a Black Business Month content calendar.
- Draft captions highlighting Black-owned businesses.
- Assist with spotlight questions, short features, and basic content organization.
- Schedule approved content in Buffer.
- Coordinate with Black Connect leadership to align posts withnrelated initiatives.
- Track engagement and prepare a brief end-of-month summary.
- Review each scheduled post after publication on each platform to confirm accuracy, formatting, tags, hashtags, links, graphics, and member/business references.
- Track engagement across platforms, including likes, comments, shares, saves, reposts, reach, and other available metrics, and prepare an end-of-internship engagement report summarizing performance and recommendations.
Deliverables
During the internship, the intern will complete:
- August Black Business Month content calendar.
- Scheduled posts in Buffer.
- Member spotlight caption bank.
- Member highlight questionnaire or intake form.
- End-of-month social media summary.
- Post-publication review checklist.
- End-of-internship engagement report with performance summary, strongest posts, platform observations, and recommendations for future member highlights.
Ideal Candidate
This role is ideal for students interested in communications, marketing, social media, journalism, public relations, entrepreneurship, digital storytelling, or Black-owned business development.
Strong candidates should be able to write clearly, follow brand direction, meet deadlines, and understand the importance of presenting entrepreneurs and member businesses professionally.
Time Commitment
Approximately 5–10 hours per week from July through August, with the option to continue into the fall semester.
