Retirement Plan Sales Associate

Through our open architecture recordkeeping services, we provide investment advisors, managers, plan sponsors and participants access to traditional and non-traditional investments. 

Department Responsibilities 

The Sales Team is focused on developing and closing 401(k) deals and other company sponsored retirement plan opportunities. The sales team partners with the marketing team to represent LRS in a sales and business development capacity, nurturing prospects, building relationships with referral partners, and conducting sales meetings in a virtual environment.

Role Responsibilities 

The Sales Associate will engage prospects, develop tailored solutions, and own the progression of qualified opportunities through to signed client agreements. This position is a quota-carrying, consultative sales role responsible for closing new business and contributing directly to revenue growth. This role is ideal for individuals who combine strong analytical capabilities with a desire to develop as a trusted advisor and effective closer in the retirement plan industry.

Essential Job Duties

  • Progressively assume responsibility for closing new business, with the expectation of independently advancing qualified opportunities through final stages and securing signed client agreements.
  • Meet or exceed individual sales targets and contribute directly to firmwide revenue growth.
  • Support the sales team by executing assigned sales activities while also contributing analytical and proposal support to advance opportunities through the pipeline. 
  • Support sales analyst work by preparing proposals, analyses, fee disclosures, illustrations, and other pre-sales materials for prospective clients. 
  • Proactively engage in discovery calls, follow-ups, and virtual presentations with increasing ownership of client conversations.
  • Research, qualify, and evaluate prospects by gathering plan data, reviewing plan characteristics, identifying client needs, and assessing the applicability of LRS solutions. 
  • Manage assigned sales opportunities within the CRM, ensuring accurate tracking of prospect activity, next steps, and pipeline stages. 
  • Prepare contribution modeling, service cost comparisons, and plan design illustrations to support prospect decision-making. 
  • Lead or support the conversion of prospects to active clients, with direct involvement in final-stage negotiations and agreement execution.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales leadership on targeted outreach and prospecting initiatives via email, phone, webinars, and digital campaigns. 
  • Support provider and referral partner searches (CPAs, advisors, attorneys, payroll providers) and assist in maintaining referral relationships under the direction of senior sales team members. 
  • Build working knowledge of retirement plan structures, qualification requirements, plan documents, and common plan design considerations to support effective sales conversations. 
  • Act as a liaison between sales, finance, and implementation teams to support pricing questions, contract details, and prospect-specific plan considerations. 
  • Stay current on retirement plan industry trends, competitive positioning, and regulatory developments relevant to the sales process.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered. 
  • 1–3 years of experience in business development, sales support, sales operations, financial services, or related client-facing or analytical roles. 
  • Prior experience supporting proposals, sales processes, or client onboarding in a financial services or professional services environment preferred. 
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize data, build comparisons, and translate findings into clear sales-support materials. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat; experience working in a CRM or sales tracking system preferred. 
  • Ability to balance sales execution with analytical and administrative responsibilities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain moderately complex concepts clearly and professionally. 
  • Experience in the retirement plan industry (TPA, recordkeeper, advisor support, benefits administration) is a plus but not required. 
  • ASPPA Retirement Plan Fundamentals (RPF) credential or progress toward industry designations preferred but not required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. 
  • The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The work environment is usually an indoor setting with infrequent exposure to outside elements. This position requires less than 5% of travel.
  • The person in this position occasionally needs to move about inside a home office environment to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a printer.
