Private Markets Consulting Intern
Private Markets Consulting Intern
Aurant Partners LLC • Houston, TX • 20 Hours per Week
What Aurant Is
Aurant Partners is a one-person acquisition firm. The founder is a Texas engineer and HBS MBA graduate who is returning home to buy one business and operate it after acquisition.
What You Will Do
- Research privately-held industrial businesses across Texas, with a focus from Houston to Beaumont
- Find owner contact information for companies that are not listed anywhere
- Write and send outbound emails that feel personal, not like a campaign
- Track outreach, follow up on prior contacts, and report what is working
- Give honest feedback on email drafts and business negotiations
- Exposed to live M&A deals
- Interact with brokers, accountants, and attorneys with a front seat to due diligence and negotiations
What You Will Not Do
- Financial modeling
- Slide decks
- Anything you or anyone else thinks is a waste of time
Who This Is For
No major requirement nor knowledge of search funds, but the role fits certain types. Examples include
- Finance or economics student who wants to understand how decisions are made behind the scenes
- Engineering or technical students wondering how businesses grow, scale, and get funded
- Business students with an interest in an unorthodox career
- Anyone hungry to learn what it takes to buy or build something of their own
Requirements
- Keen interest in business and entrepreneurship (will be unenjoyable if not)
- Ability to write clearly and work independently without a lot of direction
- Willingness to follow up on things that feel uncomfortable, like a fourth email to someone who has not responded
- Understands that the way business gets done in Texas is different from other parts of the country
- Able to work a minimum of 20 hours a week, with a preference for hybrid.
Compensation
This is an unpaid internship. Not the right fit if you’re looking for a prestigious, structured work environment as we will be working out of an unassuming library or similar spaces and priorities will shift.
In place of a salary, the founder will provide letters of recommendation and, for anyone who performs well, direct introductions into banks, consulting firms, PE firms, and his HBS alumni network. He will also work with you on recruiting, interviewing and graduate school applications if that is of interest to you.
