Ghana Medical Volunteer and Internship

About the Role & Clinical Impact
Are you an aspiring medical, nursing, or public health student looking to gain unforgettable clinical exposure, develop global healthcare perspectives, and travel with purpose? SFLIG Volunteers invites passionate students and recent graduates to join our healthcare support program in Ghana.

In many rural and semi-urban communities near Kasoa, local clinics and maternal health centers operate with extremely limited staff and resources. This program gives you a rare opportunity to observe medicine in a developing world context, support local healthcare heroes, and participate in vital public health outreach.

What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities)
* Clinical Shadowing: Work alongside local Ghanaian doctors, nurses, and medical officers during clinical rounds, observing diagnoses, surgeries, and treatment procedures.
* Triage & Non-Invasive Support: Assist with basic, non-invasive patient check-ins under direct local supervision (measuring blood pressure, recording patient history, checking weights, and prepping charts).
* Public Health Outreach: Participate in organized community health screenings, tracking vitals for rural populations, and helping distribute basic health resources.
* Health Education: Help plan and deliver interactive public health workshops focusing on hygiene, nutrition, maternal health, or disease prevention in local schools and villages.

What We Are Looking For (Qualifications)
* Target Majors: Pre-Med, Nursing, Public Health, Biology, Exercise Science, Health Administration, or related fields. (Enthusiastic students from other majors passionate about public health are also welcome!)
* Skills: Strong empathy, active listening, cross-cultural curiosity, maturity, and a collaborative spirit. No formal medical certification required for observational tracks.
* Cultural Respect: An eagerness to learn about, respect, and fully immerse yourself in Ghanaian culture, traditions, and local clinical environments.

The Student Experience: What’s Included
* Academic Credit & Clinical Hours: If your university department requires supervisor evaluations or paperwork to verify observational/experiential hours, our team will gladly coordinate with your advisors to fill out all documentation.
* Total Support Network: From comprehensive pre-departure prep and airport pickups to safe, shared volunteer housing, local orientation, and dedicated staff mentors, we ensure your trip is secure and highly organized.
* Work-Life Balance: Hospital and clinic placements run Monday through Friday, giving you long weekends to explore Ghana’s historic coastal forts, national parks, and vibrant markets alongside fellow global volunteers.
