Ghana Volunteer and Internship Opportunity
SFLIG Volunteers is a registered NGO based in Ghana offering structured, ethical international placements (2 to 12+ weeks) for university students looking to build global experience, complete gap periods, or earn academic internship credits.
We are currently accepting applicants for our Teaching, Childcare, and Healthcare tracks in Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast in Ghana.
EXPECTED RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teaching: Assist local teachers in community schools, design basic lesson plans, teach English or math, and organize creative extracurricular activities.
• Childcare: Support staff at daycares and community centers, facilitate early childhood education games, and assist with daily feeding and care routines.
• Healthcare (Pre-Med/Nursing/Public Health): Shadow local medical professionals in clinics, assist with basic patient intake, and participate in community public health outreach and health screening campaigns.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum age of 16 at the time of travel (Applicants aged 16-17 require signed parental/guardian consent).
• Must be a student or recent graduate looking for international experience.
• Clean criminal background check (required prior to departure for childcare/teaching roles).
• For Healthcare Track: Must be actively enrolled in a relevant medical, nursing, pre-med, or public health degree program. No prior medical experience is required for Teaching or Childcare tracks.
• Ability to fundraise or cover international travel costs and program fees (which cover secure housing, local meals, and 24/7 support).
SPECIFIC SKILLS WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
• Cross-Cultural Communication: Ability to adapt to new environments and collaborate respectfully with local Ghanaian staff and community members.
• Adaptability & Resilience: Comfort working in developing community settings with varying resource levels.
• Teamwork & Leadership: Proactive attitude to take initiative in classrooms or clinics and work well with other international volunteers.
• Basic Teaching/Public Speaking: Ability to confidently present information to groups of children or community members.
Program Flexibility & Funding Details
All-Year-Round: Placements are open 12 months a year, allowing you to choose your own start date.
Flexible Durations: You can volunteer for as little as **2 weeks up to 6+ months** depending on your schedule.
Self-Funded Program: Please note that this is a self-funded international experience. Selected volunteers are responsible for their travel expenses and pay a program/placement fee, which directly covers your secure volunteer housing, airport pickups, orientation, in-country staff support, and project materials.
