Upward Bound Program Assistant
JOB SUMMARY
Upward Bound TRiO tutors provide Edison High School students academic support through one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions for this upcoming summer session. Tutors facilitate learning as a guide and assist students to become successful independent learners. Tutoring aims to increase and enhance concepts and applications of a specific course of study. Tutors integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize the student’s potential for academic success.
Tutoring will be done in person at Edison High School, possibly rotating virtual tutoring.
Tutoring is needed in the following subjects:
- English
- Spanish
- History
Especially:
- Science
- Math
QUALIFICATIONS
· Friendly, attentive, responsible, and patient to a diversity of students
· Able to identify and assist students with his/her weaknesses and strengths
· Have excellent writing, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
· Motivated and dedicated to helping students improve and succeed academically
· Honest, dependable, and mature
· Have excellent attendance and time management
· Ability to work with students from varied backgrounds, age groups, and skill level
· Applicants must have a 2.7 minimum GPA and B or higher for subject tutoring
· Previous tutoring or leadership experience is preferred but not required
· Low-income or first-generation background is preferred
Tutoring will also be held at the University of the Pacific with some virtual aspects attached. Transportation is not provided. Tutoring is held in person as follows:
Monday-Thursday, 3:00 - 6:00 pm (Some Weekends)
(Subject to change depending on students' needs. If the schedule doesn't work with all days, you could work only one of the days as the schedule permits.)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Reports to the UB Director and UB Advisor
· Provide specialized instruction for individual subject areas
· Tutoring students on a one-to-one basis or in small group sessions
· Answer questions on course content
· Tutors will work with students in their areas of expertise
· Aid in comprehension of course material
· Review class material with students
· Mentor students by participating in educational/cultural activities
· Other duties assigned by the Program Director
TRAINING:
Required paid training before tutoring
COMPENSATION:
$17.00per hour.
