Data Engineer II at the University of Utah in SLC: Requires Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field and 24 months experience working in a relational database environment, including using SQL, manipulating large datasets, and importing and exporting data from the database. Experience requirements can be satisfied through employment, training or an advanced academic program. 

The Data Engineer II in the University’s Huntsman Cancer Institute Utah Population Database (UPDB) Shared Resource unit is responsible for preparing analytic files for investigators using unstructured and structured electronic health and administrative data in the UPDB. This will involve writing complex SQL queries and procedures within a SQL Server environment; extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from a variety of data sources; performing quality control of data; calculating summary statistics on data sets; extracting analytic data sets from the UPDB for research projects; and assisting investigators with manuscript writing related to publication. The Data Engineer II will also collaborate and communicate with engineers, statisticians, investigator teams, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements to technical specifications and coded data pipelines.
