Location: Mississippi Power – Plant Daniel, Moss Point, MS

Job Type: Internship

Job Summary: Mississippi Power is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Chemical Technician Intern to join our team at Plant Daniel. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience within a power generation environment. The intern will work closely with experienced professionals to support various operational and maintenance tasks, contributing to the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain water treatment plant equipment to produce demineralized water and service water for various plant applications.
  • Conduct sampling of water, wastewater, and metal deposits.
  • Perform analytical testing and monitor and sample plant effluents.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Manage inventory of chemicals and laboratory consumables.
  • Oversee the handling and transportation of bulk chemicals and unloading.

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree in chemistry or scientific field with at least 12 semester hours of chemistry
  • Broad knowledge of analytical, inorganic, environmental, and water chemistry.
  • Understanding of chemical treatment methods and the operation of water treatment plants.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems, interpret schematic diagrams, and identify water process problems.
  • Proficiency in various Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic work environment.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures.

  • Adaptability to evolving work duties and the ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience with pumps, valves, and piping systems
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Previous internship or project experience in a related field.
