Position Overview
Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to support 6th-grade students in an inclusion and resource classroom setting in Charlotte, North Carolina.
This opportunity is ideal for an educator who is passionate about providing individualized academic support, collaborating with general education teachers, and helping students with diverse learning needs achieve success in the classroom.
The Special Education Teacher will provide specialized instruction, accommodations, and interventions while supporting students within both inclusive and resource-based learning environments.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with student needs and educational goals.
Provide specialized instruction in a 6th-grade inclusion and resource setting.
Support students through small-group instruction, targeted interventions, and academic skill development.
Collaborate with general education teachers to provide accommodations and modifications.
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation.
Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, and multidisciplinary planning sessions.
Adapt curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet individual student needs.
Implement positive behavior supports and classroom management strategies.
Foster a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Communicate effectively with families, administrators, and support staff.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field required.
Active North Carolina Special Education teaching license required (or ability to obtain).
Experience supporting middle school students preferred.
Experience with inclusion, resource, or co-teaching models preferred.
Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
Knowledge of IEP development, progress monitoring, and special education compliance.
Passion for supporting students with diverse academic and learning needs.
