Marketing Intern

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: 

The Kitchen House is a nonprofit organization offering hands-on educational experiences that help our neighbors put plant-forward eating into practice. Our mission is to create opportunities for the Central Florida community to explore deeper connections with our food and each other through immersive garden-to-kitchen experiences. Our vision is a community that prioritizes sustainable, whole food as a source of joy and connection. Our facility in College Park comprises a teaching kitchen and culinary garden, nestled into a residential neighborhood in one of Orlando’s most vibrant communities. 


 

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP: 

The Marketing Intern plays a central role in increasing visibility of our organization and programs throughout the Central Florida community. This role creates promotional content for social media, e-newsletters, and print materials, executing on a marketing strategy developed by the Program Director and Development & Communications Manager. Strong applicants are proficient in graphic design software, can take dynamic photos and videos of program activities, and have excellent writing skills. Must be able to provide own laptop.


 LEARNING OUTCOMES AND BENEFITS

  • Apply learning about public relations, marketing, and communications to a real-world nonprofit organization.
  • Create a portfolio of marketing content, including graphics, newsletters, video, and print materials.
  • Gain experience conducting interviews, directing short-form video production, and managing digital marketing platforms to ~20,000 subscribers.
  • Increase knowledge of the Orange County nonprofit community.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Program Director and Development & Communications Manager to implement a comprehensive strategic marketing and communications plan to: 
    • Increase awareness of the organization’s programs, events, and initiatives
    • Meet and exceed program and fundraising revenue goals
    • Raise The Kitchen House’s profile in the community as a leader in plant-forward food education for personal and community wellness
  • Manage social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook) and create content, including photos/video/graphics and written copy, that engages supporters and attracts new audiences.
  • Create simple video scripts and direct staff and community partners on camera. 
  • Manage upcoming program information on event finder platforms. 
  • Create and distribute monthly e-newsletters to share organizational news and upcoming programs, as well as segmented e-newsletters to donors, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Update program calendar on website with new classes and events.
  • Use Canva (or comparable graphic design software) to produce marketing materials, including flyers, brochures, event invitations, social media graphics, and other collateral.
  • Use Canva (or comparable video editing software) to produce engaging short-form videos to post across social media platforms.
  • Use Hootsuite (or comparable social media management software) to schedule social media content and analyze performance.
  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of marketing campaigns through the creation of monthly performance reports, and adjust strategies as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Seeking a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience managing a successful social media account to drive engagement for a brand or cause. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to craft compelling content for various platforms and audiences within brand guidelines and established timelines.
  • Experience with graphic design software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).
  • Photography/videography skills, with ability to provide your own camera or phone.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok), email marketing tools (Squarespace), and website content management systems (Squarespace).
  • Proven ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Passion for The Kitchen House’s mission and a commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

 

PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time, using keyboards and phones. The ability to see and hear, and lift somewhat heavy objects (15 lb.) occasionally is required. Use of keyboards and phones is required daily.
