The Assistant Tutorial Program Coordinator plays a crucial role in providing academic support to student-athletes by overseeing the daily operations of tutoring services and literacy programs. This position ensures compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations. Key responsibilities include recruiting, training, and evaluating peer tutors; implementing academic support services; administering a comprehensive matching system to align tutor skill sets with student academic goals; scheduling and managing tutor appointments; monitoring student outcomes through data systems; weekly communications and announcements; monitoring and providing data reports; and collaborating with the university to align tutoring with curriculum objectives.
Position Duties:
- Program Logistics: Schedule tutor requests during the first initial weeks of classes, coordinate daily tutoring schedules, track appointment attendance, and manage the booking of tutoring appointments.
- Tutor Management: Assist with recruitment, interviewing, and orientation of tutors. Facilitate tutor training sessions and evaluate their performance.
- Student Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for student-athletes and tutors. Partner with learning specialists and academic counselors to implement targeted learning strategies. Help students identify their academic needs, set tutor goals, and match them with the appropriate tutor to ensure progress toward graduation.
- Administrative Duties: Maintain the program's database, process weekly communications and announcements, attend campus academic support training sessions and meetings, and help manage the tutorial program's budget.
- Data and Reporting: Collect and analyze performance metrics, attendance, and feedback to generate regular progress reports for the unit and department. Track tutors' complete session reports and reschedule conflict adjustments. Compile a weekly report of student-athletes’ academic performance and scheduling through session reports and distribute to academic staff, highlighting areas of progress and concerns.
- Professionalism & Communication: Foster respectful and professional relationships with student-athletes, staff, and University stakeholders. Communicate clearly and effectively using appropriate professional language while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Administrative Excellence & Attention to Detail: Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail in all administrative responsibilities, including accurate documentation, timely reporting, and compliance with University, departmental, and NCAA policies and procedures.
- Programming & Event Coordination: Support the planning and execution of GSAC events, including Summer Bridge, Scholar-Athlete Recognition Game, Graduation Reception, Guest Coaches Program, recruitment initiatives, and special projects.
- Professional Development: Engage in regular professional development opportunities, including training sessions, workshops, and special assignments, to build skills essential for a career in student-athlete academic support.
- Physical Demands: Work is performed in an office environment and requires operation of standard office devices such as computers, phones, copy machines, etc. Position requires the ability to attend meetings in various locations and to stand, walk, kneel/crouch, balance, and lift to 20 pounds.
