Job Description:
This employment opportunity is to serve as the Mosquito Identification Specialist 3. Under direction, of a higher level supervisory official, supervises and performs the more complex work involving the identification of species of mosquitoes; tabulates, summarizes and plots results of identification and numbers for use in directing control activities; may assist with mosquito extermination and control work; does other related duties as required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervises the work operations and/or functional programs and has the responsibility for effectively recommending the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting and/or discipling of employees.
- Plans, organizes and supervises the collection and identification of mosquitoes according to species and genus using a microscope and mosquito key.
- Supervises the preparation of records of counts and species for use in mosquito control.
- Prepares or supervises the preparation of analysis of these findings and may send copies to the appropriate State and county agencies.
- May establish and coordinate a mosquito awareness program for public education.
- Coordinates the preparation of maps indicating trap collections and breeding areas.
- Supervises the maintenance and repair of surveillance traps.
- Prepares comparison charts or tables comparing findings in the area with surveillance findings in surrounding counties and with previous year's records.
- May inspect and evaluate breeding areas.
- May respond to and investigate citizen complaints.
- Performs and supervises laboratory work involved in identification of mosquitoes.
- Trains subordinates in the exercise of their duties and responsibilities.
- May assist in setting up a systematic program of extermination and control including the spraying of insecticides and related drainage work.
- Supervises and prepares clear and informative reports.
- Supervises the maintenance of essential records and files.
Schedule:
- Full time (40 hours/week).
- Occasional overtime as required.
- Weekend, evenings, holidays and on call as required.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Three (3) years of experience in the identification of insects by species and genus, two (2) years of which shall be in the identification of mosquito species.
- NOTE: Completion of six (6) semester hours of credit in entomology at an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of experience in the identification of insects by species and genus.
Other Requirements:
- Possession of or the ability to obtain a current and valid certificate as a commercial pesticide applicator or a commercial pesticide operator issued by the New jersey Department of Environmental Protection is required.
- Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey which is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, Outlook and Excel programs.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.

Salary: $60,500 / per annum
